How to accept GrabPay at checkout in Singapore. Compare HitPay's 3% online MDR vs Stripe, complete KYC, and connect Shopify or WooCommerce.

GrabPay lives inside an app Singaporeans already open daily. Millions use it for rides, food delivery, and now payments. Adding it to checkout meets shoppers where they already are. It costs more than PayNow, but the setup runs through the same KYC process. Here is the full integration, step by step.

What You’ll Need

  • Singapore-registered business with a UEN: sole proprietorships (ROB), partnerships, and companies (ACRA-registered) all qualify
  • Singapore business bank account: for payout from your gateway of choice
  • Business verification documents: ACRA BizFile extract or equivalent, plus a director or owner NRIC
  • Ecommerce platform: Shopify, WooCommerce, or a custom checkout
  • Payment gateway account: HitPay or Stripe (Step 2 covers the choice)

GrabPay is not a bank rail like PayNow. It is a closed-loop e-wallet owned by Grab, and merchants can only accept it through a licensed payment gateway that has integrated Grab’s merchant API. You cannot request a GrabPay QR code by registering a personal Grab account; a merchant-tier gateway integration is required.

Step 1: Confirm Your UEN Registration with ACRA

Every gateway’s KYC process starts with your Unique Entity Number. If you’re already ACRA-registered, this step just confirms your details are current.

  1. Visit bizfile.acra.gov.sg and search your business name
  2. Download a BizFile extract. Gateways require this document for verification
  3. Confirm your entity status shows “Live” or “Registered”
  4. Note your UEN for the gateway application forms in Step 3

If you’re not yet registered, complete ACRA registration first. Gateway applications without a valid UEN are rejected outright.

Step 2: Choose a GrabPay-Compatible Gateway

Two gateways cover GrabPay for Singapore ecommerce: HitPay and Stripe. Both connect to Shopify and WooCommerce, but they publish very different amounts of pricing detail for this specific payment method.

Sources: hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing; stripe.com/en-sg/payments/payment-methods (both verified July 2026). Verify before signing up, since gateway pricing changes.

Choosing between them:

HitPay is the transparent choice for GrabPay specifically: its 3% online / 2.2% in-person rate is published and confirmed. Stripe confirms it supports GrabPay for Singapore and Malaysia customers, but its public pricing page does not break out a distinct GrabPay percentage the way it does for cards and PayNow. You’d need to check your Stripe Dashboard or talk to Stripe sales for the exact number before committing.

If GrabPay volume matters enough that the fee difference is worth chasing down, get the number from Stripe directly. If you want a published rate today, HitPay’s 3% is the one you can act on immediately.

Step 3: Register Your Merchant Account

Both gateways use self-serve signup. For HitPay, register at hitpayapp.com, enter your business details and UEN, and submit your application. Review takes 1-3 business days. For Stripe, create an account at stripe.com, complete Settings → Business details with your UEN, and Stripe typically activates Singapore accounts within 1-2 business days.

Both let you explore the dashboard before KYC clears, but live payments stay blocked until verification is approved.

Step 4: Submit Your KYC Documents

Gateways operating in Singapore verify merchants under the Payment Services Act, regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Have your documents ready before you start the application.

Required documents:

DocumentHitPayStripe
ACRA BizFile extractRequiredRequired
Director or owner NRIC (front and back)RequiredRequired
Business bank account statementRequired (3 months)Sometimes requested
Website URLRequiredRequired
Business description and product categoryRequiredRequired

Tips to clear KYC faster:

  • Use a PDF BizFile extract downloaded directly from ACRA. Screenshots get rejected
  • Make sure your bank statement shows your company name, not a personal name
  • Describe your products specifically. Vague categories like “general merchandise” trigger manual review

Businesses with multiple directors should expect HitPay to request NRIC for each one. Stripe usually only verifies the primary account owner.

Step 5: Retrieve Your API Credentials

Once KYC clears, collect your credentials from the gateway dashboard before touching your ecommerce platform.

HitPay credentials:

  1. Log in to your HitPay dashboard
  2. Go to Settings → Payment Gateway
  3. Copy your API Key and note your Salt (used for webhook verification)
  4. Store both securely. You’ll enter them into your Shopify or WooCommerce plugin

Stripe credentials:

  1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard
  2. Go to Developers → API keys
  3. Copy your Publishable key and Secret key
  4. Never expose your Secret key in client-side code or a public repository

For custom builds, also grab your webhook signing secret from Developers → Webhooks in the Stripe Dashboard, so your server can confirm webhook events are genuinely from Stripe.

Step 6: Connect GrabPay to Your Ecommerce Platform

Shopify + HitPay

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Payments
  2. Under “Third-party payment providers,” click Choose third-party provider
  3. Search HitPay and click Connect
  4. Enter your HitPay API Key and Salt
  5. Under payment methods, enable GrabPay
  6. Save and activate

HitPay also has a dedicated Shopify app in the Shopify App Store. Either path lands on the same integration.

Shopify + Stripe

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Payments
  2. Under “Third-party payment providers,” choose Stripe
  3. Connect your Stripe account (or create one from within Shopify)
  4. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com
  5. Go to Settings → Payment methods
  6. Find GrabPay and click Enable
  7. Return to Shopify. GrabPay now appears at checkout automatically

WooCommerce + HitPay

  1. In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New
  2. Search HitPay Payment Gateway and install
  3. Activate the plugin
  4. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → HitPay → Manage
  5. Enter your API Key and Salt
  6. Enable GrabPay under the HitPay payment methods list
  7. Save

WooCommerce + Stripe

  1. Install the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway plugin (official plugin by Stripe and WooCommerce)
  2. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Stripe → Manage
  3. Enter your Stripe Publishable key and Secret key
  4. In your Stripe Dashboard, go to Settings → Payment methods and enable GrabPay
  5. Save

Custom Checkout (API)

Both gateways expose REST APIs for custom checkouts: POST the order details to the gateway’s charge or payment intent endpoint, receive a GrabPay redirect or QR response, display it at checkout, and confirm payment via server-to-server webhook. Build in error handling for the case where a customer closes the Grab app mid-payment: both gateways will report the charge as expired rather than completed.

Step 7: Run a Live GrabPay Test Transaction

GrabPay sandbox environments have limited real-world reliability. The fastest way to confirm your integration works is a small live transaction from your own Grab account.

Test checklist:

  • GrabPay appears as a payment option at your store’s checkout
  • Selecting GrabPay opens the Grab app (mobile) or shows a QR code (desktop)
  • Completing payment in the Grab app returns you to the order confirmation page
  • The order status updates to “paid” in your gateway dashboard
  • The order status updates in your ecommerce platform (Shopify orders, WooCommerce orders)
  • Your gateway’s webhook log shows the payment event fired

If the order stays pending after a completed GrabPay payment: Your webhook endpoint isn’t receiving calls. Confirm your webhook URL is publicly accessible (not localhost), correctly entered in the gateway dashboard, and responding with HTTP 200. Both HitPay and Stripe log webhook delivery attempts; check that log for the exact error before assuming the integration itself is broken.

Refund test (optional): Process a refund on your test order and confirm it clears in both your gateway dashboard and ecommerce platform. E-wallet refunds through HitPay typically post back to the customer’s Grab balance faster than a card refund, though the exact timeline depends on Grab’s own processing.

Step 8: Go Live and Track Your First Settlement

With a passing test, GrabPay is ready for real orders.

Settlement monitoring checklist for your first week:

  • First real GrabPay order appears in your gateway transaction log with the correct amount
  • Settlement arrives in your business bank account on the T+1 calendar-day schedule (HitPay) or the next payout cycle (Stripe)
  • Gross GrabPay revenue minus the MDR equals the net deposit in your bank account
  • Bank statement description matches the gateway name so reconciliation is straightforward

Fee math example (50 GrabPay orders/month, S$150 AOV, S$7,500 gross, via HitPay):

  • GrabPay: 50 × S$4.50 = S$225.00 in fees (3% × S$150)
  • PayNow (same volume, for comparison): 50 × S$1.28 = S$64.00 in fees (0.65% × S$150 + S$0.30)

At the same order volume, GrabPay costs roughly 3.5x what PayNow costs, per hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing (verified July 2026). Both settle on the same T+1 schedule, so the extra cost buys checkout familiarity for Grab-app shoppers, not faster access to your money. Whether that trade is worth it depends on how much of your traffic actually prefers GrabPay over PayNow or cards at checkout. Track GrabPay’s share of total orders for a month before deciding whether to keep it enabled.

Processing fees quoted by Singapore-registered gateways may be subject to Singapore’s standard Goods and Services Tax, per IRAS. Confirm with your gateway whether their published rate is GST-inclusive before building it into your margin calculations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does GrabPay work with Shopify Payments in Singapore?

No. Shopify Payments Singapore does not support GrabPay. To accept it at checkout, you need a third-party gateway: HitPay, with its published 3% online rate, or Stripe, which supports GrabPay for Singapore and Malaysia customers but doesn’t list a separate rate on its public pricing page.

What does GrabPay cost merchants in Singapore?

Through HitPay, GrabPay costs 3% per online transaction and 2.2% per in-person transaction, per hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing (verified July 2026). That’s roughly 4-5x PayNow’s 0.65% + S$0.30 fee. Paylater by Grab costs more again, at 5.5% online. Confirm current rates before signing up.

Does GrabPay settle faster than PayNow?

No. Through HitPay, both GrabPay and PayNow fall under the non-card balance, paying out on a T+1 calendar-day schedule, per hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing. They settle on the same timeline. The real difference is cost: GrabPay’s 3% MDR is substantially higher than PayNow’s.

Can customers outside Singapore pay with GrabPay?

GrabPay in Singapore is tied to a Grab account funded through a Singapore-linked payment method, functioning as a local wallet rather than a cross-border option. For international shoppers, keep card payments enabled: HitPay and Stripe both process international Visa and Mastercard in the same integration as GrabPay.

Is GrabPay free for merchants to accept?

No. There’s no signup or monthly fee to add GrabPay through HitPay, but every transaction carries a merchant discount rate: 3% online, 2.2% in person, per hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing (verified July 2026). That fee is deducted automatically before settlement reaches your bank account.
